Interview with puppet master Toby Olié

Tonight I am off to Narnia. Not literally obviously.. unless I stumble across the magical wardrobe.

No.  As far as I know…Narnia is at Chichester Festival Theatre as are the Lion, the Witch and the beforementioned wardrobe for this years Youth Theatre Christmas show.

To celebrate I interviewed Toby Olié for our December issue. And having previously turned his puppetry skills to War Horse, it is easy to say the strings of this show are in safe hands. On his to-do list was making Aslan, as, as he explained; “you can’t have a real lion on stage.” And the witches wolves.. so just a normal day in the office then : )

Needless to say the interview was more than a little bit interesting. Not only does he say his main source of inspiration is the Muppets, he recalled that his career began when playing with egg boxes during his Jurassic Park phase.

He has probably been my favourite person to interview ever. And as a result it will come as no surprise he is my magazine clipping of the month : )
