I am a huge fan of Radio One’s Live Lounge. Songs I know done in a new way by other artists, giving it all a fresh twist, is literally music to my ears. So this morning on my way to work I loved Scott Mills introducing me to a band who are all about giving pop classics a bit of a shake up…
Frisky and Mannish kicked off by promising something a little saucy… what I wasn’t expecting was a combination of childhood tunes, Old McDonald and Wheels on the Bus included, performed in the style of Sound of the Underground by Girls Aloud…
How about Peter Andre’s Mysterious Girl in the style of Florence and the Machine?
Or Kate Bash… Kate Nash and Bush combined.
It certainly has to be heard to be believed. Even the Telegraph couldn’t sum them up –
“On paper, it’s next-to impossible to do justice to what happens during a Frisky and Mannish gig…”
So how do Frisky and Mannish describe themselves?
“If pressed, we would say, it’s popmusicy-seriocomic-mashparodic-stereophonic-LOUD-vaudevillian-sketchcabaret-throwbackcurrent-oldfangled-newfashioned-bapsbotty-infotainment. Or, to be succinct, we tit around with pop songs. You will blates love it.”
So, they cheered up my Tuesday and for that reason I felt the urge to tell you about them. If you like your music with a dollop of humour and a good side portion of fun then you are only letting yourself down if you don’t check them out.
